| BRATTLEBORO, VT -- BuildingGreen, publishers of Environmental Building News and the GreenSpec® Directory of green products, has partnered with Second Nature to help provide information and guidance to under-resourced colleges and universities around the US. Second Nature has launched a capacity-building program, Advancing Green Building in Higher Education, focused on addressing some of the challenges faced by under-resourced colleges and universities to "build green" on their campuses.
Through this program BuildingGreen is offering highly discounted access to the premium content in BuildingGreen Suite to participating colleges and universities. BuildingGreen's founder and executive editor, Alex Wilson has also been participating in the drafting of a study guidance document entitled "Advancing Education for Sustainability: Teaching the Concepts of Green Building to All Students." This strategic paper will help guide further work by Second Nature, the U.S. Green Building Council, BuildingGreen, and others to further the advancement of green building knowledge and practice in education.
"Our goal with Second Nature is to put the practical green building information for which BuildingGreen is known into the hands of the institutions that really need it," said Alex Wilson, BuildingGreen's founder and executive editor. "BuildingGreen is helping organizations that might not be able to afford the time and money to engage in green building practices, by teaming up with Second Nature and providing special access to practical and timely information."
"Our research indicates that under-resourced colleges and universities are often isolated in peer groups with little green building experience and without the financial resources to access the networks and great resources that now exist on green building," said Amy Seif Hattan, director of strategic initiatives at Second Nature. "We are pleased to partner with BuildingGreen to provide decision-makers at these schools with the opportunity to learn from the resources available to construct and renovate campus buildings in ways that save money, reduce environmental and health impacts, and serve as educational tools."
